Throughout the unit of work focusing on environmental sustainability – particularly the effects of plastic on the environment, students will work collaboratively in groups of four to create a persuasive campaign that aims to convince NSW residents to support a ban of plastic bags. This task is inspired by the ABC Behind the News (BTN) resource which models elements of our anticipated multimodal task with a South Australian perspective – This is explored in Lesson 2 and components of the video including visual and written grammar are deconstructed and explored throughout the sequence of lessons.
To achieve this task, students utilise Jaycut software, hand-held video cameras, digital cameras, Adobe Photoshop and elements of a jointly constructed exposition (lessons 3 – 5). The video should be 2 – 4 minutes long. Groups must include: - Current facts and statistics related to the presence and effect of plastic bags in the natural environment
- Appropriate visuals, including the group designed image (created in lesson 6) - Audio, predominantly voice-overs of the written exposition and may also include music
These multimodal texts will be shared with the class and one will be selected to be viewed by the school at an assembly.
